It’s been a long time…

It has been some time since I’ve written something. I’ve made a decision to try cyclocross this season, and have entered the usual three hill climbs I do (Leith, Catford, Bec). Which has meant this week has been a week of “smashing it on the turbo”. For the first time ever, I actually felt like I was going to vomit after an effort yesterday. I think that’s progress.

Around about this point in the year, I start to wish I’d started trying harder at stuff like hill climbs a bit earlier in my life. I’m just mucking around really. I certainly think that when I look at my times and then I look at people who actually place/have a chance of placing in the top 20 or so.

Loads of people better placed than me have written about the joys of going up inclines, fretting about weight, fretting about ability, feeling the world getting smaller, feeling lifted from the crowd, and then falling over after crossing the line. I don’t really fret about my weight too much, so I make up for this by fretting about my ability. I’ve never fallen over after crossing the line, or before crossing the line. I’m not really looking for any gains in either of these areas.

I’m now spending more time thinking about bike bits.
